Surf – Yoga – Food – Adventures
Join us on our very first edition exploring the most southern gem of Costa Rica; Pavones. With the second longest left-hander in the world, this place is a true surfer’s paradise. There’s more to this place than just waves though. It’s impressive scenery is a playground for any adventurer with its rugged beaches and wild jungle, and we would be selfish if we wouldn’t share this beauty with you!
Rancho Burica is located in the little town of Punta Banco, Costa Rica. Only foot steps away from the beach, surrounded by jungle and often visited by a diversity of (mostly) friendly animals. Accommodation is simple and keeps you close to nature. So don’t expect air-conditioned rooms or a chloride pool, but do expect one of the most beautiful places you have ever visited. There’s a waterfall in the garden, a mirador just up the hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and plenty of hammocks to choose from. Every single room has ocean views and isn’t further than 10 steps from the deserted beach, which is quite unique in Costa Rica.
We offer different packages depending on your choice of room. Would you like to get to know your fellow travel buddies a bit better and won’t mind sharing a room? Perfect! We got our 6 bed dorm or one of the basic shared cabinas available for you. Rather have a bit more privacy and a hot shower? No problem, we got four beautiful luxury cabinas available as well which you can share with your partner or friends.
We will be based in Punta Banco, a tiny town close to the world class surf break of Pavones. Our beautiful hide-out is blessed with an awesome wave just out front, but we wouldn’t be on a surf trip if we wouldn’t discover more than just this break. We’ll be taking you to different spots in the nearby area with our English speaking surf guides. The Pavones area has many surf breaks suitable for both beginners, intermediates and advanced surfers. Whether you don’t have that much experience yet or would like to improve your intermediate skills, our surf guides are here to help you every day!
Of course we’ll be giving Pavones a go as well, so you can hopefully come back with a big grin on your face telling everyone you surfed the best wave of your life. Oh, and we’re surfing tropical waters. So guess what, no wetsuit needed!
We dare to say that our Hide-Out offers the most beautiful yoga deck you’ve ever seen. Surrounded by jungle, with a view overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and the sounds of nature all around you. Our English speaking yoga teacher will offer Hatha inspired yoga classes with a focus on your surf activities. Did you know surfing and yoga are like two peas in a pot? The balance we practice during our yoga classes will help you on your board, while the stretching will relax those sore surfing muscles.
- Mats and blocks will be provided.
The Nature & Adventures
During your stay with us, we’d like you to experience this place as we would do it. So, it’s not only about surfing. There’s always more to discover. The following activities will be included in the package:
Horse back riding
It doesn’t matter if you have never ridden a horse in your life or grew up as a true pony girl, this horse back trip will be a lifetime memory. We’ll take the horses out into the mountains, the beautiful indigenous reserve Punta Banco is bordering with, the jungle and the wild and untamed beach towards Panama. You’ll see nature at its best and discover places where hardly anyone sets foot.
Boat trip to Matapalo
We will be taking the boat out to the other side of the Golfo Dulce. The other side is also well known as the Osa Peninsula; one of the most bio diverse places in the world. Depending on the waves we’ll be having a surf session here, enjoy our breakfast on a deserted beach and we’ll be chasing waterfalls to cool down a bit. During this trip you might be able to spot different kinds of monkeys, toucans, parrots, turtles, dolphins and maybe even some humpback whales.
We bet your shoulders will be sore after a surf session or two. What sounds better than a deep tissue massage with essential oils? Right. Nothing. So we got you covered here.
The local community of Punta Banco is closely involved in protecting the turtles that come to shore to lay their eggs every year. The first turtles will come to shore around July to drop hundreds of eggs in the black sands of Playa Punta Banco. Unfortunately eating turtle eggs has been a delicacy for decades in Costa Rica, which means that poachers are attracted by this phenomena as well. The people of Punta Banco walk up and down the beach every single night to protect those turtles from poachers and we’ll be able to join them in small groups on one of these walks.
You might be able to see one of the four different types of turtles that visit this beach, or if you’re really lucky see the baby turtles be released into the ocean.
Keep in mind that these are wild animals. Even though it might be turtle season, there’s never a guarantee of seeing them. Also, always respect nature and keep your distance.
In case you’re worrying about the food. Please don’t. We are absolute food addicts, and my holiday wouldn’t even be close to perfect if the food isn’t delicious. So taking you with us on our retreat, practically means you’ll be well taken care off on the food department. Pinky promise. What it will taste like? Well… After your morning surf or yoga session (depending on the tide) you can dive into an abundant breakfast of freshly squeezed juices, fruits from the garden, homemade bread, yoghurt and granola, a side of eggs or some traditional pinto.
Lunch will be a delicious vegetarian dish. How about some quesadillas, grilled veggie wraps or couscous salad? We’ll make sure those hungry surf bellies will be satisfied. After a beautiful sunset and a long day of awesome experiences there’s nothing better than to join our dinner table. A daily changing menu of both local and western dishes, always with plenty of veggies and salad, will be the perfect end to another perfect day.
